Anybody here who is also connected to me via Facebook will know that I made an Announcement recently. For those of you not in the know, I'll make it brief and offer up a bit of an explanation.

I'm moving to Georgia in July. Atlanta, to be specific. In short, I was given two choices: redundancy or transfer. After considering (do not for a moment think that this was a decision taken lightly - it was never so; not in the least) the options given me, Shaddow and I decided that me taking the transfer was in the best interests of our financial future.

At present, he will be staying in Texas; that may change depending upon his own circumstances, but for the foreseeable future, we'll be keeping two households. I plan to come back to visit as often as is feasible.

I'm considering keeping a video blog of what I get up to in Atlanta - what do we think of this?

I've not been keeping up with Facebook, so this is news to me. Is there any chance this could be a temporary move, or is it definitely permanent? In any case, I have no doubt you will do wonderfully well wherever you land, and maybe the change of venue will do your plants good.

Snort. Thanks for the vote of confidence, you. It's been a rough spring thus far; I think too much about making the move, and I come a bit unstuck. :|

And...I have thought about what this could mean for my plants, yeh. I'm now thinking they'll come to live on a plant shelf in a window. Perhaps the oxalis will bloom then. Sure, who knows, yeh?

Yikes :-( That is going to be not fun or easy. BUT. In case you need company or a drink or less aloneness for a little while, Atlanta is 2.5 hours from Knoxville. And Knoxville, coincidentally, is also 2.5 hours from Atlanta.

Just so ya know. :)

Y'all are in Knoxville?

For two years now, yep :)

We'll talk; definitely. It'd be grand to have Something to Do with my weekends there. 'Cos it'll not be in the cards for me to come here every weekend (at least, not till I build up my flyer miles, you know).

Thanks an amazing amount for the offer. :D

Our pleasure (literally, because we miss you too) - it's hard enough to be so far away from all your friends, but your husband too :-( That's undue amounts of suck.

Hopefully the upheaval will settle down as quickly as possible.

Wow, that's a pretty significant change. I hope it works out for you. Do they have gaelic bands in Atlanta?

Why, of course they've got garlic bread in Atlanta.

...oh. Snort. My head's clearly All Banjaxy. From what I understand, the Irish scene in Atlanta is going well. There's actually a chapter of the Comhaltas Ceoltoiri na h-Eireann there, which means a local fleadh (competition), and classes that can be taken, sort of thing.

Xing my fingers, but I think it'll be alright.

I'm tempted by the 'family only' option because it'd make me feel special. :D

Bwah! And me too. Mwah! I got your postcard. I am very confused by the picture.

It's an image from inside the Maddest Museum Ever. I'd say 'go to the web site', only it never does it justice. I'll have to send you a video or two.

Just in case you want a strange-friendly face. I'll be in Atl in September over Labor Day weekend.

Jesus mate, if I'm about then, sure. I'll let you know how to find me. When I know wherever it is I'll be.

Hmmm, there's not an option for my place on the poll, which would be "Love to read updates, but not a video-watching fan, so do it if it's helpful to you and Shadow, but please keep some text updates for the rest of us?"

I'm not sure whether congratulations or commiserations are called for. Glad you're still employed. Glad you've got a support system that allows for this kind of stretch. Sorry that you've having to put it to this kind of strain. Glad for what you get to experience and play with, sorry for what you're not getting to take with you. It's complicated. What's uncomplicated are the good wishes sent your way, for peace, stability, and sanity, not to mention a healthy dose of humor in making the best of your new situation.

You said it, sister. Desperate times call for creative measures. I know myself to be an adaptable person...only when it comes to this, Jesus, it feels a bit like betrayal, you know?

How dare I be adaptable, sort of thing. Argh. It's all a part of the Change Process, I reckon.

Yeah, I'd like to read updates but tend to get behind on watching videos.

*hugs* I'll miss you! Nick and I might have to deal with the two-household system when I go away to grad school, so I think I feel your pain.

Well, I'll certainly pass on any kernals of wisdom that this may grant me. I've got somebody (two somebodies, actually) on my friends list who has been in a long-distance marriage for Rather a Long Time, so I know it's possible.

I've been to Atlanta on business a couple of times. It had its merits. The two households thing is going to be tough, though. Oh, and CRAP! We're planning to be in Dallas in October. Maybe I can let you know when we're planning to be there and arrange for our visits to coincide...

Do let me know when you'll be here, yeh. I know I'm to be here towards the end of October, but I'll be at Irish Camp then, so... I'll not actually be visible, sort of thing.

Jeez, was that TMI? Snort. Argh.

I sometimes miss out on watching videos as well, especially since my computer doesn't want to run them smoothly (possibly a Firefox issue, because it's been getting choppy with a lot of stuff and freezing up randomly for a few seconds). Anyway, regardless, even though I do love the concept of videos, I sometimes forget to watch them.

But if you have time and if it helps you keep in touch and others enjoy it, I say go for it :)

It's odd, Cynthia. Whereas I make more sense and lose less in the translation in print...I feel more likely to switch on my wee video camera (and the thing is Frigging Small) and babble for a moment or two.

I'm daunted and put off by the blank screens, sort of thing. 'S the reason I only ever seem to update my LJs once in a blue, you know?

Date: 2009-04-20 03:41 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile]
Oh, I do understand. I've gotten to where I stare at my LJ and wonder why I pay for it if I rarely update it. Sometimes I don't really know what to say or would anyone really care? Heck, even if I have plenty to say, I get all confuzzled and if it's something Really Big, I get exhausted just thinking enough about whatever it is I should post about and give up before I even get started. I've lost count how many entries have been written but not posted, too. Tons, I'm sure.

I think it was you recently who said that the Facebook status line has been more helpful. I must admit, I've found it to be easier to update over there myself!

Sorry that the change seems forced, I know that life paths certainly change.
I like blogging and keeping up with various friends especially as they move about the country and world and I stay in the same place.

Gwy's kids are just an hour north of Atlanta, in Cave Spring, GA (just FYI).

Keeping you both in thoughts, and the knowledge that all happens for a reason.

I keep saying to myself 'you've chosen this, remember'. Which...can be a bit damning, I realise, but the perspective is sometimes needed. I find I've not said 'ah, why me' at all, really. And...I understand that it's natural to feel that way,'s not serving me.

Everything's an adventure, yeh?

There would be, what...6 hours difference between the two of us? Isn't Switzerland GMT+1?

Yes indeedy. The best time for folks in the US on EST is in the morning (EST time).

Early morning or mid morning?

early to mid. :) It is a six hour difference, so if you are on at say, 8AM EST, I think that's 2PM here? If I'm up late (like tonight), it is more late morningish for you. Maybe even lunch time.

This is the best website for finding out what time is where:
